Dear Hiring Director,
As an educator I have helped students gain employment in their chosen fields, gain internships and win awards. I have created debate, writing and conversation clubs. I have grown the organizations from the ground up as well as sustained organizations in difficult times. As you will see from the attached documents, my voluntary and paid work as an English teacher has given me considerable experience in teaching students of a variety of levels. It is a career I take great pride in, and my passion for teaching is consistently paired with professionalism and skill. I have completed the following qualifications as a means of upgrading my skills and knowledge to be an effective ESL Teacher in Korea:
* B.A. in Secondary Education – History & Political Science (completed 2004)
* Teacher Certification (MI, USA) 2004 – 2010
* Diverse teaching experience including - Naryn State University (TEFL)
University of Central Asia (Business English)
Saginaw State University (International Department)
PuKyong National University (Core Camp)
Kyungsung University (Camps and FYL)
Dong-A University (K-Move)
Youngsan University (Instructor)
* Additional 10 years teaching subject-based ESL, Debate, Literature and Grammar in Korea
* Korean F6 Visa Status
* Master of Arts in Education- Literacy and Post-Secondary Leadership (completed 2018)
Most importantly, I worked for two years in Naryn, a small city in the Kyrgyz Republic as a University TEFL US Peace Corps Volunteer. From 2005 to 2007, I worked at Naryn State University and Abdrahman School. I also taught business English at the University of Central Asia during this time. Throughout my service, I taught university students of all levels. I worked with first year students, final year students that were preparing for their internships or jobs, and adults that wanted to return to the workplace. I worked hard to incorporate terms from their curricula into their mandatory English classes as well as introduce topics and best practices to aid them in their future careers. A strong focus on both confidence and conversation skills, as well as on advanced discussion topics that will help students understand challenging material, have always been at the core of my teaching philosophy.
Throughout my teaching career, I have worked hard to not only encourage a wider vocabulary and deeper comprehension of English, but also to foster fluency and creativity that will help students in their future endeavors. My work in literacy and adult education at Michigan State University has honed these skills even further.
If necessary I can attach my résumé as well as scans of my diploma, letters of recommendation and the necessary paperwork. Included at the bottom of my résumé is the contact for WMU’s credential file center where my letters of recommendation are stored. Additional letters of recommendation, as well as my Peace Corps COS, are available upon request.
Sincerely,
Mr. Matthew Grandmason
